Having worked with a manual solution for a number of years, Lincoln Furniture Warehouse (LFW) decided to move its retail operations into the 21st Century. The company was quick to realise that it required a stock management system which enabled sales people to move around within the location and sell display stock.

LFW recently introduced the cybertill EPoS solution. The innovative nature of this technology plus the business benefits which LFW has gained from its investment resulted in LFW being nominated a finalist in the 2007 Retail Systems Awards ‘EPoS Innovation of the Year’.
The search for the right solution
Although a single store retailer, the requirements of LFW were in many ways as complex as those of its larger counterparts. On a normal day, LFW has six sales staff who can all sell from the same stock. It was, therefore, important to have a real-time solution. Another important requirement was that sales staff should be able to generate sales transactions whilst moving around the store, but not have to finalise and take payment.
The cybertill solution
Cybertill offers a real-time, ‘software as a service’ solution. This has ensured that LFW’s primary requirement was met. Cybertill then worked with the organisation to implement a hardware profile which allowed sales staff to sell from the shop floor. This was done through the implementation of a wireless network and tablet PC’s. Additional functionality has been added to the cybertill application to allow transactions to be moved around within the business for finalising.

LFW felt that cybertill was the only solution on the market to cater for its requirements. Made available on an ASP basis with data accessible via a broadband virtual private network connection, the cybertill solution has relieved LFW of the headache and cost of managing staff and an inhouse system.

The customer relationship management (CRM) capability of the solution means that LFW is able to engage fully with its customers. The company can proactively meet customer needs and surpass their expectations with targeted marketing from the point-of-sale. This allows the business to promote itself in a way which was not previously possible.
Another benefit to LFW is that it does not need to concern itself with system updates as these are included within the cybertill service. The result is that the company always has the latest functionality.
As and when LFW grows its business, it will be a seamless process to expand the cybertill system to manage multi-store operations. The fact that cybertill is already used by some of the UK’s largest retail chains means that LFW’s previous concerns about system scalability have been removed.
