RETAIL TECHNOLOGY CEO NAMED FINALIST IN THE
‘CEO OF THE YEAR’ AWARDS
Specialist retail technology company, Cybertill Limited, has announced that its founder and Managing Director, Ian Tomlinson, has been named a finalist in the UK Technology Innovation and Growth Awards category of ‘Technology CEO of the Year – Private Firm’.
The Awards, which are now in their ninth year, have become one of the most coveted accolades within the business and technology communities. The ‘Technology CEO of the Year’ is awarded to an individual who has shown exceptional leadership and been instrumental in transforming or driving forward his or her business.
During a lengthy review process, the panel of judges looked for the qualities of strategic vision, inspirational leadership and a real instinct for the business, its market and its growth opportunities.
Ian Tomlinson is credited with having developed the Cybertill business from a vision sketched on the back of a restaurant napkin to a leader in the competitive point-of-sale software market within five years.
Ian correctly predicted the growth of multi-channel retailing and was determined to exploit the availability of affordable and universal broadband access. He conceptualised a software product that would work as well in a single distribution channel as it would when running stores, mail order operations and ecommerce web sites as an integrated business.
Today, Cybertill software systems operate in more than 3,000 retail locations nationwide and drive scores of successful ecommerce operations.
Reputed regionally and nationally for his dynamism and commercial flair, Ian Tomlinson was runner up in both the 2004 and 2005 national Chamber of Commerce competitions for ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’.
The business he has created has also enjoyed numerous accolades including, most recently, being named regional winner of the ‘Orange Best Use of Technology’ category in the 2006 National Business Awards.
Ian is 42, and is married with two young children. A Mancunian by birth, he still lives locally and established his business in nearby St Helens.
Award winners for ‘Technology CEO of the Year’ and other categories will be announced at a ceremony to take place on Tuesday 13 March 2007 in the Hilton London Park Lane.
